Hitting Level 55 in Black Ops 7 feels like slamming into a wall. The bar's full, matches keep rolling, but nothing's moving. That's usually the moment people start asking about Prestige, or they go looking for shortcuts like a CoD BO7 Bot Lobby to keep the pace up without losing their mind. Either way, you've got a choice to make, and it's not as scary as it sounds if you know what's actually getting reset.
1) Where to do it, and what the game makes you confirm
Prestige isn't automatic. You have to trigger it. When you're truly capped at 55, head into the Progression section and look for the Prestige option. The game will slow you down on purpose with extra prompts, then a hold-to-confirm. It's basically a "no, seriously" check so you don't wipe your level because you were mashing buttons between matches. Once you commit, your player level goes back to 1 and your multiplayer unlock path starts over from the beginning.
2) What resets, and what doesn't
The painful part is your access to stuff. Weapons, perks, tactical/lethal gear, field upgrades, streaks—most of it gets locked behind levels again. So yeah, for a bit you're back on early-game setups, and it can feel rough if you're used to a certain perk combo. But here's the bit people miss: your weapon progression doesn't vanish. If you've leveled a rifle, earned attachments, or unlocked camos, that progress is still there. You just can't equip that gun until you unlock it again, unless you've got a way around the level gate.
3) The rewards, and how to not waste them
Prestiging is mostly about two things: the flex and the utility. The icon and any cosmetic reward are nice, but the real value is the permanent unlock token. Use it like a grown-up. Don't burn it on something you'd naturally unlock in your first evening back. Save it for a late-level perk or a high-end streak that changes how your matches play. That one choice can make the "Level 1 again" phase way less annoying, because you're not stuck waiting ages to get your core kit back.
4) So, should you Prestige right away
If you're still chasing challenges, camos, or you just like having a fresh climb, Prestige is worth it. If you're the type who hates losing access to your comfort loadout, it might be smarter to hang at 55, finish your weapon goals, then reset when you're ready. A lot of players do it in waves: grind hard, Prestige, rebuild fast, repeat. If that rebuild sounds like the worst part, some folks mix in easier sessions—anything from playing chill modes to running a u4gm BO7 Bot Lobby so the early levels don't feel like a slog.
